In the mind of a 7 year old

Kaleb's favorite show right now is America's Got Talent. He has seen Burke and I record shows that we want to see if we are going to miss them. So now he wants to record his show because he has to go to bed before it's over. The other night I let him stay up and watch until he was tired, just because I felt like it. It was so much fun to watch it with him. He thinks it is the greatest show ever. When his friends come over he even asks them if they want to watch one he's recorded and they say yes and have a great time watching it together.
The other night this lady that sings Opera had just sang and she got a standing ovation and had great comments given to her. I asked him if he liked it and said that it was ok, but you could tell he wasn't too impressed. Then a preview of the act that would be on after the commercial came on. It was a lady with a dog that could dance with her and Kaleb says with a big smile "Now THAT'S talent!!!". I just cracked up, and he was totally serious.

Kaleb's first day back

Kaleb was so excited to go to school yesterday morning. He kept asking when we could leave. He had a fun summer and was ready to get back to school. I grabbed the camera before we headed off to school and got him on the porch. Then we walked to school. The mornings are the perfect weather for walking to school, I love it. After school it's roasting though, so we drive.
My little 2nd grader, I just love him!
And then at his desk I asked if I could take one more there and he said "I don't care" and then gave me this smile. He is just so cute and had a great first day. Of course recess was the highlight. I'm pretty sure that's the main answer most mom's get of what they liked at school. Makes sense.
This morning when we were going to drop him off he informed me that I didn't need to bring him in anymore, that was just for the first day. What a big guy.

ps. Kaiya starts Kindergarten next Monday, so I'll fill you in on her first day then. :)

Kittens and dancing

Kaiya started dance class last week. It is at my friend Danielle's house all the way at the end of our street. About 15 minutes into the middle of no where. The kids love going there because they always have little animals to hold. This time it was kittens. We had fun holding them for a while.

Here is Katelin looking at the chickens. Her hands are so cute. I don't know exactly why she was doing that, but there were a lot of flies over there, she might have been keeping them away from her face that way.
Kaiya came up after dance class and had to hold one also. She's doing so well in class. She is terrified of performing though, but I hope she overcomes that because it's so much fun to watch her with her cute little class.
On the way to dance we listen to Taylor Swift's song "You belong with me". It's Kaiya's favorite one right now. We listen to it almost 4 times before we get there. It's a fun little tradition of ours. Kaleb had to come with us yesterday and wasn't to impressed with our little tradition, he kept saying "AGAIN!" when we'd put it on again and again. Kaiya sings SO loud with it all the way also, and I just have to join her. It's pretty fun.

Burke's Art

Burke took pictures of his artwork this morning because he had to e-mail a picture of his final art piece to one of his teachers that he finished last night. I promised I'd post it so you could all see what he's been up to, so here's all of the art he did over the summer for his classes. Oh, he took these classes because he graduated in Music education, but he is also an art teacher at the school so he needs to take classes for his art endorsement, then he'll be official. It's been lots of fun for him, he really loves art.

Water Colors: 2 flowers and 2 cars

These last two were from his last class in Vernal. They used pictures from magazines and then picked things out of them they wanted to use. This first one was to be geometric shapes
This was his final project his teacher called it their masterpieces. I love it!

Weekend in Salt Lake

This weekend we got to visit with my step brother Robb and his boys Ethan and Bodie. They hardly ever see each other so it was fun seeing them all play and have such a fun time together. Ethan and Kaiya share the same birthday and year. When I saw Ethan he said "Remember me, I'm her twin." He's a funny kid.
We also went to a graduation party for our brother-in-law Josh. It was fun to visit and eat yummy food. Kaiya got all the way across the rings for her first time, so proud!

The kids love going to the Bean Museum when we're in Provo also. They had this Elephant exhibit out this time also. There are a bunch of dead stuffed animals to see. We also went to the Art Museum there.
At my mom's house Kaleb and Quentin shared a chair while they watched Batman Returns. Kaleb had found all of the old cheesy Batman's on video at my moms and was so excited. This is when Mr. Freeze came out, they were so impressed!
We also went to the Hogle Zoo on Saturday in the rain with Burke's dad. It was great though because no one was there. It was pretty cold though. By the time we had seen everything it was warming up and the crowds came. So it was nice to leave. We also went to a birthday party for Riley. It was a busy and fun weekend for sure!

Fun in the tub

Burke made this sweet up-do for Katelin while she was taking a bath the other day. I love the curl at the very top. She thought it was so funny after we showed her the pictures. Cutie.

And MORE Camping

Burke's sister Candice and her husband Josh came and stayed with us for a couple of nights last week. We loved having some visitors. We took them to the Arches so they could check it out.

Kaleb found a nice spot to rest. We went on some long hikes to some arches! The kids did so well, I was really surprised!
Tired kids. Good thing we had lots of willing shoulder ride givers!
We met up with Burke's brother Blake's family to go camping. They live in Colorado Springs which is about 6 hours away. So we decided to meet in the middle and all go camping. We really had a fun time.

One night the kids went into our tent and told "scary stories". It was so cute. This is Larissa telling hers and the kids would give little scary shouts as she told it. Too funny!
We went on a hike. Kaiya had a breakdown about 15 minutes into it so her and I and Larissa headed back to camp and had our own little party while the rest of them finished off the hike. Kaiya had been running like the whole time and was sweating and exhausted, I was fine with heading back, so we did.
Candice and Josh wanted some drawing lessons from Burke. They brought their drawing stuff and Burke showed them some things to start with and they sat there and did their homework like GREAT kids!!! They're so cute.
Burke told the kids they should catch some little crawdads and cook them up. They were so excited. Burke wrapped up some bacon to the end of some fishing wire and threw it into the water and left it to see if they would catch any.
While doing this they spotted a dead fish floating on the water, so Blake and Josh threw rocks on one side of the fish in the water so it would get closer and closer to them. They finally caught it and put that out for bait for the crawdads too. The kids just thought this whole experience was amazing. When they talked to grandparents on the phone that weekend when we got home that's all they had to talk about. They did end up catching a bunch of crawdads and were going to boil them up, but as Burke was boiling water the propane ran out! The kids were so upset about that. Maybe next time.
Katelin and Kyle are about 1 1/2 months apart and they are so funny together. They were like a little married couple. Kyle decided just to come and sit on Katelin here. And another time they were going down a little hill and so he grabbed Katelin's hand and told her to be careful. So cute!
Kaiya and Larissa playing with the sick crawdads! YUCK! They have little pinchers on them and the kids would let them pinch them to see if it hurt. Luckily it didn't really!
We'll have to do this again. There was a lake just down from us also that the kids played in every second they could. It was a fun trip.

Swimming!!!

We got a family pass this summer at the KOA to use their swimming pool. I'm SO glad we did too. It has been so much fun to go get in the cool water when it is so hot outside. And the kids have really gotten good at learning the basics of swimming. They jump into the water without holding their noses! Burke taught them that, I still don't do that! Hahaha. Don't laugh at me.

Kaleb kept asking me to take his picture when he went under the water, so here it is. He's gotten so brave since we started going at the beginning of the summer, it's really fun to watch him.

He loves the slide. The other day he wanted to go down with out any floating ring or life jacket. I stood there at the bottom a ways out and then he'd go down and when he would go under the water he'd lift his hand up so I could just grab him out - great idea!
